Cell salts
Your cell salt protocol and the twelve cell salts
A cell salt protocol is the short list of cell salts I think are worth considering for you, and the order I would approach them in. I build yours from your blood work and your health story, using the twelve cell salts (also called tissue salts, or the Schuessler salts) as my framework. Below I explain how that works and what each of the twelve is traditionally associated with.
What are cell salts and why do I use them?
Cell salts, also known as tissue salts or Schuessler salts, are twelve mineral preparations developed from the work of Dr Wilhelm Schuessler.
They are used in complementary practice as a way of looking at mineral patterns within the body.
I use the twelve cell salts as one of the frameworks for my Blood Story analysis.
Rather than simply looking at your blood results and saying, “this number is high” or “this number is low”, I look at the bigger picture and consider whether particular cell salts may be relevant to the patterns I see.
How do blood tests relate to cell salts?
This is where it gets really interesting.
Because cell salts are mineral salts, I look at your blood work for patterns that may relate to particular salts, and then consider these alongside your symptoms and overall health picture.
For example:
Ferrum phosphoricum is traditionally associated with iron, phosphate and the blood. So if your blood work shows lower iron, ferritin or haemoglobin, Ferrum phos may be one of the salts I consider.
Calcarea phosphorica is associated with calcium and phosphate, as well as bones, teeth and rebuilding. Calcium or phosphate-related results may therefore be relevant when considering this salt.
Natrum muriaticum is associated with sodium and fluid balance, so sodium and electrolyte results can sometimes provide another piece of the picture.
But it is not as simple as “low iron = Ferrum phos.”
I look at your results as a whole, along with how you are feeling, your symptoms and your health history.
Your blood work gives me information.
Your story gives me context.
And the cell salts give me a framework for bringing those things together.
Important: Your Blood Story is a complementary health analysis and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If your blood work shows anaemia, iron deficiency or another abnormality, this should always be discussed with your healthcare professional.
The twelve cell salts
- Calcarea fluorica Traditionally associated with elasticity, connective tissue, bones and teeth.
- Calcarea phosphorica Traditionally associated with calcium and phosphorus, bones, teeth, growth, development and rebuilding.
- Calcarea sulphurica Traditionally associated with the skin, cleansing processes and lingering discharges.
- Ferrum phosphoricum Traditionally associated with iron, phosphate and the blood.
- Kali muriaticum Traditionally associated with mucous membranes and congestion.
- Kali phosphoricum Traditionally associated with the nervous system, mental and physical exhaustion and depleted energy.
- Kali sulphuricum Traditionally associated with the skin, mucous membranes and later stages of inflammatory processes.
- Magnesia phosphorica Often known as the “nerve and muscle” salt and traditionally associated with cramps, spasms and muscle tension.
- Natrum muriaticum Traditionally associated with sodium, fluid balance and the distribution of water throughout the body.
- Natrum phosphoricum Traditionally associated with acid balance and digestion.
- Natrum sulphuricum Traditionally associated with fluid elimination and the liver and gallbladder sphere.
- Silicea Traditionally associated with connective tissue, skin, hair and nails.

It is not about taking all twelve
This is an important point.
You do not need to buy twelve bottles and start taking everything.
The purpose of Your Blood Story is to look at your individual picture and determine which cell salts I think are worth considering.
The recommendations are personalised to you.
I also explain the order in which I would approach them, rather than leaving you with a confusing list of possibilities.
Your blood work is the starting point, not the answer
I am not saying:
“Your ferritin is low, therefore you need Ferrum phos.”
I am saying:
“Your blood work contains a pattern that may make Ferrum phos worth considering. Now let’s look at the rest of your story and see whether it fits.”
That is the difference between simply matching numbers to remedies and doing a personalised Blood Story analysis.
Your blood work gives me information.
Your story gives me context.
The cell salts give me a framework for bringing those things together.
